Brandeis High School AFJROTC Wraps Up An Amazing First Semester

Submitted By Sara Salem

Brandeis AFJROTC Class of 2016-17 collected over 650 toys during the month of November. These donations will benefit a local non-profit, Living Through Giving, and be distributed to children in Foster Care this holiday season.

Here in the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC) at Brandeis High School we’ve accomplished a lot within the first semester and are set to accomplish even more as we go on into the spring. During the first AFJROTC  held an extremely successful food drive, had a fundraiser, collected toys for children in need, were involved in several competitions, had our Christmas party, as well as participating in Wreaths Across America. Needless to say AFJROTC takes our community service seriously.  During our annual Food Drive benefitting the San Antonio Food Bank we collected over 5,000 lbs of food in three weeks! And followed that up with our annual toy drive collecting over 650 toys for the Living Through Giving Winter Celebration Toy Drive.  Between those two drives, we also had a successful fundraiser that will enable us to continue to have the high quality programs we enjoy so much.  Our teams, the Nighthawks Armed Drill Team, Blue Aces Unarmed Drill Team, Praetorians Physical Training Team, Titans Rocketry Team and the Foxhounds and Black Widows Cyber Security Teams continue to do very well; taking home a lot of trophies. Brandeis AFJROTC also participated in Wreaths Across America on December 17, 2016 with a majority of our corps participating in placing wreaths on the graves of our fallen soldiers at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

The rest of this school year Brandeis AFJROTC will be planning for our Military Ball held in February at Lackland Air Force Base; this includes a ceremony honoring our Prisoners of War and those still missing in action. AFJROTC continue to support our community with events like Special Olympics and then graduation for our seniors.
