Fourth grade gifted and talented students from Roan Forest Elementary participated in the McNay Spotlight Program this year. They spent part of their studies this semester focusing on feature artist, Georgia O’Keeffe. After a visit from Rosemary Hickman, Semmes Education Manager for the McNay, and a field trip to the McNay to see O’Keeffe’s piece, Leaf Motif No. 2, students created a piece of art inspired by the artist. Part of this process involved students taking photos of flowers at the beautiful McNay gardens.
After many hours of work using paper clay and acrylic paint, pieces were then installed in the McNay for a gallery show on May 20.
“Students are thrilled and proud to be able to say that they’ve had their work displayed at the McNay!” reported Lisa Watson, Gifted and Talented Teacher.
A big thanks to Alessandra Herbert, Roan Forest Parent Volunteer, Rosemary Hickman, and the staff at the McNay for providing this incredible experience for students.
