Comal ISD Recognizes Dyslexia Awareness
Submitted By Jason Gordon
October is dyslexia awareness month. Comal ISD recognized dyslexia awareness month by hosting a dyslexia awareness night on October 23 in the Board Room at the district’s Support Services Building in New Braunfels.
Students with dyslexia were invited to submit creative responses related to the theme, “Let Hope Arise.” The submissions were on display that night in addition to a number of other booths. The booths included information about technology resources such as “Learning Ally,” information about dyslexia screenings for kindergarten and first grade students, and general information about dyslexia and related disorders. The night will began with a message of hope from a student identified as dyslexic.
“We want to communicate that even though a diagnosis of dyslexia can feel overwhelming, there is hope,” said Jennifer Johnson, Comal ISD’s Director of Dyslexia. “When students receive intervention and accommodations, they can overcome the obstacles and experience success.”
