NEISD’s Swimposium Hosts Olympians
Submitted By Daniel Segura
The North East ISD Blossom Athletic Center/Bill Walker Pool hosted a “Swimposium” swim clinic led by USA Olympians Josh Davis and Ryan Murphy on Sunday, October 1. Approximately 400 people from all over South Texas, including 200 swimmers between the ages of 8-18, were in attendance. Many of these young swimmers attend NEISD schools.
The sport of swimming continues to grow in popularity among Texas youth. The opportunity to learn from proven USA Olympians makes the South Texas Swimposium the premiere swim clinic in the state. Josh Davis and Ryan Murphy worked with swimming athletes in the Walker Pool, while attendees had the opportunity to take photos with the Olympians following the clinic.
Ryan Murphy is a three-time Gold Medalist at the 2016 Olympics Games in Rio and is a current World Record Holder. He attended Stanford University and achieved eight NCAA Individual Championships while representing the Cardinal. Josh Davis, former student at NEISD’s Churchill High School, is the namesake of the newer natatorium located at the Blossom Athletic Center. Davis is a three-time Gold Medalist and has been placed in the University of Texas Hall of Honor and San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame.
