Smithson Valley High senior volleyball players Gabi Sandoval (St. Mary’s University-San Antonio), Lauren Kadilis (Eckerd College-Florida), and Maddie McKay (UT-San Antonio) all signed national letters of intent to continue their playing careers at the collegiate level on November 8. The trio helped lead the Rangers to a 24-16 overall record and a berth in the bi-district playoffs this season.
“All of our seniors were extremely instrumental to our success,” said Courtney Patton, SVHS head coach. “As leaders, these girls set a goal to continue the tradition of winning in this program and it showed on the court. They were great leaders and true competitors. They set the bar high and we have some big shoes to fill in their absence.”
Smithson Valley High School baseball player Ethan Rivera also signed a scholarship offer to play at Rogers State University in Oklahoma on November 8. Rivera was a utility player and both a starting pitcher and relief pitcher for the Rangers during his junior season. He pitched 31 innings with a 1.59 earned run average and 21 strikeouts. He helped the Rangers to a district championship and a spot in the area round of the playoffs.
“Ethan is one of those players we can plug into almost any situation in a game and we know he won’t get rattled,” said Chad Koehl, SVHS head coach. “It’s those traits that will serve him well when he’s playing in college as well. We’re definitely looking forward to having him back for his senior year.”
