In 2018, San Antonio will mark its 300th anniversary: a rare, historic event that will be remembered for generations. On December 1, the countdown to San Antonio and Bexar County’s 300th anniversary began. The first of December marked 31 days from Celebrate 300, the official New Year’s Eve kick off.
The Tricentennial Commission, a public nonprofit, leads the way in celebrating and commemorating our 300 years by developing a year of educational, artistic, and entertaining events. The milestone year will be an experience that will propel our culturally rich and innovative community into the next 300 years. As San Antonio takes the world’s stage, key initiatives include: History & Education, Arts & Culture, Community Service, and Commemorative Week. The yearlong commemoration will celebrate our memorable past and propel us into our equally remarkable future.

To date, nearly 700 community events and activities have been sanctioned by the Tricentennial Commission to be an official part of the anniversary. All taking place in 2018, the wide variety of events range from artistic performances to historical reenactments to world-renowned art exhibitions.

Tricentennial activity will attract an estimated 263,000 new visitors to San Antonio. Visit San Antonio is a Tricentennial partner and is helping to kick off its 300th commemoration with a Tricentennial Dreamstakes contest. Among the prizes is a four-night stay at the Hilton Palacio del Rio. Locals and visitors are invited to participate. More information can be found on the Visit San Antonio website at visitsanantonio.com/dreamstakes.

To build on the excitement surrounding the countdown to 2018, Tricentennial will be sending daily news pegs to share with local residents. From important announcements to interesting facts, these pegs will generate even more awareness about this once-in-a-lifetime commemoration that will soon be upon us.
